SIA Names AIM’s Bigford to Publish Snow Show Daily

New Partnership in Sports/Recreation Industry Announces Findings

Silver Spring, MD (May 10, 2010) -- Seven of the major governing bodies and trade associations in the sports, fitness, outdoor, and leisure industry have formed a research partnership -- The Physical Activity Council (PAC). The goal of the partnership is to identify key trends in sports, fitness, and recreation participation in the USA. These trends will appear in the Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Participation Overview (2010 edition).

1 in 10 Americans Say They Ski, Ride or Snowshoe

McLean, VA (May 6, 2010) - SIA announces the release of the Full 2008.09 Snow Sports Participation Report this week. Snow sports gained more than 1.5 million participants during the 2008.09 season, including 573,000 alpine skiers, 309,000 Nordic skiers and 262,000 snowboarders. More than 20,500,000 participated in at least one snow sport during the 2008.09 season.

Snow Sports Market Finishes the 2009/2010 Season in the Black

McLean, VA (May 5, 2010) -- The final results are in for the 2009/2010 snow sports season and the market finished up 4% over last season in totals sales. Snow sport retailers sold $2.94 billion this season compared to $2.82 billion a year ago. Although sales were up in dollars, fewer units were sold this season.

SNOW SPORTS MARKET REBOUNDS IN FEBRUARY

McLean, VA (April 6, 2010) -- Snow Sports market sales reached $2.7 billion in February with a 3% gain in dollars sold compared with August through February last season. The number of units sold has declined across the market this season as sales of carryover items and unit sales in some specific categories like fleece and sweaters have diminished. Warmer weather in states north of the Mason-Dixon Line, less snow in the Rockies and wetter and colder weather in the south have contributed to shifting sales patterns this season.
