Environmental Sustainability in the Snow Industry

Our passion and livelihood are one in the same, and without the snow, we lose what makes us come alive.

The future of the snow sports industry relies on Mother Nature’s health. As an industry leader, SIA has been cognizant of the impact our actions as an organization have on the environment and the influence we have to instill change. Lucky for us, being “green” has been engrained in our culture since its inception, and we continue to build on sustainability programs to shed light on the implications of climate change and inspire action.

We’ve reached a turning point. By banding together, we can make a difference.

    Tradeshows Committed to Sustainabile Practices

Creating a greener atmosphere for our trade show attendees and the industry continue to be a priority for SIA.

Environmental responsibility doesn’t just have to be a statement. Our strategic move to the Colorado Convention Center has afforded us the opportunity to monitor our impact on the community and the surrounding areas. We hold ourselves accountable by incorporating eco-friendly elements to aspects of our tradeshow—from energy efficiency, to waste diversion, to procurement to become a certifiably sustainable meeting venue.

The CCC facility also addresses sustainability with:

» Natural light in several lobbies
    » Single-stream recycling
» Solar panels that offset 280 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year
» Annual diversion of 250 tons of meetings materials from the landfill
» More than 25 percent of employees biking or using transit to commute
» “No idling” rule for shuttles and taxis
» Centerplate’s Blue Bear Farm with 5,000+ square feet of growing space that will provide the caterer and food service provider with at least 3,000 pounds of produce annually

With an understanding that there is always work to be done, we look forward to growing and expanding our sustainability initiatives.

The performance-based sustainability standards consider a wide range of functions and facilities at the CCC:

    » Venues
    » Accommodations
    » Audio visual and production
    » Communications and marketing
    » Destinations
    » Exhibits
    » Food and beverage
    » On-site offices
    » Transportation

  • SIA Sustainability Charter

SnowSports Industries America (SIA) has consistently been a leader in working to move the industry toward a more sustainable future and reduce its environmental impacts.

We have long recognized that being good stewards of the planet not only protects the vital resource, our natural environment, on which our industry depends, it is also the right thing to do for our collective future. From our trade shows to initiatives that engage our members in greening their own retail operations and distribution and manufacturing processes, we continue to drive the snow sports industry forward toward better environmental stewardship and greater sustainability.

This sustainability charter, the first ever for SIA, provides a road map and guiding principles for our environmental stewardship and sustainability efforts. It inspires us to be leaders by managing our operations and creating products in a way that demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship while exceeding the expectations of our consumers and the general public. While our members represent a diverse group of retailers, distributors, manufacturers, and sales representatives with unique products, company cultures, and local conditions, the principles in this charter embody a collective step in demonstrating our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability. Working together, SIA will continue to be a leader in working toward a more sustainable world.
