I was fortunate enough to be asked to speak about merchandising at the annual Surf Expo trade show held in Orlando in January and contribute to the SIA Snow Show Daily published at the 2014 SIA Snow Show. This month’s newsletter highlights some of the cool designs seen while wandering the aisles of the sun-and surf-inspired trade show and the everything-snow trade show.
At the SIA Snow Show, companies from around the world injected an international vibe. The Show had a decidedly global feel this year. Not only were the Sochi Winter Games beginning about a week after the Show, but new and not-so-new international companies were revving up the Show floor and sharing their passion for the snow sports industry. Bench, Picture Organic Clothing and Eira are but a few of the companies serving up heaping portions of bold colors, innovative design, and playful attitudes for the 2014-15 winter season.
SIA is working with visual merchandising consultant Ali Levy to provide retailers with some fresh merchandising ideas for increasing sales and interest from consumers. Levy’s impressive resume includes managing retail, buying and trade show/retail merchandising efforts for some of the industry’s biggest names including The North Face, SmartWool, Cloudveil and Marmot.
