Choosing the right tools for building your brand reputation with social media.

The 2012 SIA Snow Show provided both entertainment and education. Along with many social events to choose from, SIA also provided a full line-up of free seminars and clinics for all Show attendees. One of our presenters, Lynn Switanowski, president of Creative Business Consulting Group, presented seminars on social media trends and how to connect with your consumers using different social media outlets.

In the seminar, Online – All the Time, Lynn discussed how to establish and maximize your online presence via social media in order to engage customers and build your brand reputation. She showcased how to extend your brand across multiple social web tools and help you learn how to strategically maximize opportunities without compromising content and communications with your customers.

“For suppliers today, social media tools can and should be part of a successful marketing programming. Learning where your consumers are spending time online is the first key to your success,” said Lynn Switanowski. “Session attendees learned how build their brands using online tools and the benefits of specific social media tools for their business.”

DENVER — More street styles are making their way on to snow slopes, from longer lengths in women’s jackets to high-performance hoodies that could be worn while riding or skiing — or in the city later.

Makers of ski pants and jackets also are offering some styles this winter with flaunted opulence but also recycled materials in response to separate trends for outre designs and eco-elegance.

The over-the-top luxury is showing up in gold and fur accents, and exotic animal skin prints in offbeat colors, said Jeanine Pesce, trend analyst of the fashion forecasting firm Stylesight. This coming winter, Obermeyer, for example, is offering slim puffy down coats in a python pattern, in either shiny blue or silver.

On the other end of the spectrum, designers are giving a nod to what Pesce calls an “anti-outerwear” movement. At early and late-season on-mountain events, skiers and snowboarders have been taking to the snow wearing sweatshirts, vests and flannel shirts, without coats.

Burton’s newest tech apparel collection includes pieces that would look at home on a city street but also work for the slopes. The men’s collection has a waterproof soft-shell hoodie with fleece lining, performance denim jackets and pants designed with insulation and water-repellant materials, and a technical, high-performance corduroy. For women, there’s a quick-drying tank top with an antimicrobial finish, aimed at keeping odor at bay, to wear as a layer under ski gear or later for an apres-ski happy hour.

I really can’t believe that the 2012 SIA Snow Show and On-Snow Demo is history and we are already making plans for our 2013 Show.

Believe it or not we have our first “deadline” coming up for the 2013 show—March 15 for all of last year’s exhibitor to turn in their space requests.  It seems early, but we really need this information to begin planning the trade Show floor to see who needs to grow their space, who needs to reduce their space, and the ones we really don’t like to see are the space requests indicating that a company is not coming back—usually not too many of those, thank goodness.  But these initial forms are what allow us to begin the “jigsaw” puzzle of the trade show floor.  And hopefully, with enough notice, we are able to meet the needs of most of the exhibitors—note the word, most!  Would love to be able to say we can do accomplish 100% of the requests—but usually, there will be a handful that we just can’t do exactly what is requested.

In addition, to our first deadline—we are using this time to review our trade Show survey results—to see what the exhibitors and attendees would like to see improved for the Show next year.  We really appreciate everyone who takes the time to fill out the survey—believe me, we do pay attention to what is said!  If it is something that we can do to make a change, we put it on our list!  Some things, unfortunately, are out of our control (like the weather!)  Here are some of the EASY things to change for next year:

• Repeat the seminars at different times, before or after the Show
• Better booth numbering system
• Better navigation signage
• More seating for eating

Of course, there are many, many more suggestions and we will be reviewing them all and making the changes that are in our control.  And if you ever have any ideas of things that would make your time at the show better, or even time before or after the Show, please let us know any time during the year.  We realize that the Show is a significant investment for all and want to do everything that we can to make it as productive and efficient as possible.

We really do like hearing from everyone, whether it is by phone call, email, facebook or twitter—please let us know anytime you have a suggestion on something SIA can do to make your show more productive!

From the SIA Snow Show floor in Denver, to the Nordic Demo taking place at Devil’s Thumb Ranch on Jan. 30-31 as part of the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest, there’s plenty to be excited about this year, particularly in terms of growth across several key cross-country ski categories. According to SIA, 739,000 kids participated in cross-country skiing last year, establishing a baseline for future growth, and manufacturers report strong demand in everything from top-end race gear to touring equipment for the general consumer.
