The event wraps up at Ski La Parva

After a week of long days, and even longer nights spent deep within the Andes at Ski La Parva, the second annual Eye of the Condor culminated with the inaugural iF3- La Parva in Santiago, Chile. The teams, Discrete, Icelantic, Widsix, and Chile showcased the films and photos that embodied their time in the Andes.

Though each entry was brilliant and unique, only two teams could be awarded for their efforts.  Team Discrete, notorious for skiing and hiking hard lines all day, while rallying even harder at night, picked up the award for best photo portfolio. Chris Bezamat’s entries exhibit his keen creativity, artistic eye, and photographic finesse.

Arguably Bezamat’s best photo, was also one of the least planned for; it was shot just hours before submissions were due. On Thursday evening, while teams were busy making last-minute tweaks to their projects, large flakes of white fluff began to fall from the expansive Chilean sky. It was the first snow La Parva had received all week, and Bezamat wasn’t going to waste this magical moment. He grabbed his camera and flash and hiked up to to Saint Tropez, a restaurant at La Parva where Rachael Burks, Julian Carr, and Parker Cook were enjoying fireside pico sours. ‘Bez’ rallied his team and got the shot of Rachael Burks with her iconic smile gleaming, amongst the snowy background.

In the heavily contested film category, All-female team Icelantic earned the top spot and took home the golden condor for their film that includes skiing from Annelise Loevlie, Alex Taran, Rebecca Selig, and Kaylin Richardson. Katy-Robin Garton filmed and edited the piece, which embraces the “Icey Ladies” adoration for the mountains, their big mountain talent, and the eccentric Chilean ski culture. When asked what the award meant to her, Garton said, “I believe our film shares the energy and collaboration of us as a team. To have the film recognized means our collaboration and our story is valued by others as well—and to put it simply, that just feels good.”

SIA Snow Show Newsletter, 1.2 December 1, 2011

SIA: What are some of the things you are most excited about seeing/doing at the Show/Demo?
Ben: Winter on the Rocks, the first ever winter concert at Red Rocks on Friday the 27th!

SIA: Why do you come to the SIA Snow Show/On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest?
Ben: The SIA Snow Show and On Snow Demo is the perfect place to display your products and introduce your brand to the entire snow sports industry in one location. It is also a great place to get a snapshot at our industry to see what other brands are doing as well at hearing first-hand what trends retailers are seeing on the front line.

SIA: What can you only see/experience at the Show that you can’t anywhere else?
Ben: Not only can you interact one-on-one with the top dealers and other industry leaders in one location but then they have the opportunity to go and try your product when it is still fresh in their minds. This has been a huge help for us building a brand and opening new accounts.

SIA: Where have you already skied this season?
Ben: Loveland!
