“With the Snow Fashion & Trends Show scheduled for the day before the Snow Show, we wanted to create a party atmosphere, welcome everyone to Denver and set the mood for the rest of the Show,” commented David Ingemie, SIA’s President. “This will be a great first stop to catch-up with industry friends before hitting the ground running the next day,” added Ingemie.

Multiple cocktail lounges and a live DJ will properly set the mood of the event, while models work the runway and a multi-media video presentation acts as a backdrop. Throughout the evening, SIA’s partners from Stylesight, NYC-based trend forecasters, will provide commentary on major trends and color stories for the upcoming season.

At the event, Mike West, Founder of 686, will take the stage to introduce the newest set of designers competing in the RECLAIM Project during the Snow Show.  RECLAIM Project challenges three designers to create a garment from reclaimed 686 production facility materials, the two winning designers receive an internship at 686.

#SIA13 Check in with Debbie Des Roches, Director of Trade Show

Monday, October 15th, 2012

By: Debbie Des Roches
October 15, 2012

From food trucks to Board Members flipping pancakes, find some great  food options for the 2013 SIA Snow Show!

Why Attend SIA Snow Show

There is nothing like seeing pictures of snow and waking up to the mid-thirties to make you realize that the SIA Snow Show will be here before we know it.  I about cringed when I was on the website and saw only 107 days until show opening; lots to do before we get to that point.

Our hotel rooms are selling quicker than ever before–a few hotels are already sold out and a few more have very limited availability.  I guess after a few years in Denver–we are all figuring our way around –it is not so new anymore–and I hear of many show “traditions” in place, I know some of us on staff have already developed the first day, second day restaurants–the only problem with that is that Denver keeps opening some really, really good local (non-chain) restaurants–and the show is not long enough to try them all!  I keep a running list of all my standard favorites and then another list of all the new ones that I want to try and that list keeps getting longer and longer!  I feel like I should try all the new ones before going to some of my old favorites–but they are so good too!

Speaking of food–SIA is working closely with Centerplate Catering Services, the official food provider at the Colorado Convention Center to bring some good and healthy alternatives to the show floor (of course, there will still be the “standard” trade show fare like hot dogs and pizza) but this year, Centerplate started the Blue Bear Farm–located on the property of the Convention Center.   In this farm they grow seasonal fruits, veggies, and spices to be used in all the meal preparation–it is a great concept and when I saw the garden this summer, it was thriving with lots of fresh items.  Not sure that we will be able to take full advantage of it in January, but I bet a lot of the spices and seasonings used in the food will be from the fruits of this garden.

Probably the busiest food stand on the show floor is in the Center of the exhibit hall—the Colorado Ski Country USA Center Food Court–there you can get fresh soups and sandwiches and take a little break.  However, last year we added another Food Court–the Mountain View Cafe–which is at the rear of the building and you can really escape from the trade show floor and see the beautiful mountain views of Colorado–hence the name!  This was a hidden gem last year and it had some pretty awesome sushi–those of us who were lucky enough to find this cafe, had a pretty relaxing break–no matter how short it was.    So in case, the Colorado Ski Country USA Food Court is a bit hectic, remember to head toward the back of the hall and experience the Mountain View Café.

Another new food feature last year was the Blue Bear Burger and BBQ Truck-it was located just outside the main entrance of the Convention Center.  It featured gourmet burgers, BBQ, lamb slider and fries–I never tried it last year but I heard great things about it.  A good choice if you want some fresh air during lunch!

And to help you end your SIA Snow Show experience–enjoy the final morning breakfast provided to all attendees by the SIA Board of Directors.  The SIA Board members are all set up in the main lobby of the convention center and are preparing pancakes and bacon for all attendees to enjoy.  It is a great way to say hi to the Board, run into some friends, and enjoy breakfast prior to going into the exhibit hall to wrap up everything during the 2013 SIA Snow Show.

If you have any favorite restaurants or any ideas for us, be sure to let us know, send us an email or give us a call.  We are always looking for new suggestions!
