merchandisingWhy do I love the holiday season? Holiday windows, of course. Holiday windows are the Superbowl for visual merchandisers everywhere. Some of New York City’s top retailers work tirelessly for months planning themes and logistics for their holiday windows – and the reveal – well it’s like winning the Superbowl.

I went to NYC recently to document the glitter, drama and spectacle firsthand. And some store displays did not disappoint. There was lots of sparkle, color, lack of color, tiny details and wood– used in many applications. No wonder – as wood is a readily available and affordable resource and reflects the homey, nostalgic feel that evokes the holiday spirit in all of us. I was even more inspired to catch several merchandisers in action – putting finishing touches on their works of art. Executing windows on this level is daunting – but there are ideas that can truly work for anyone – even if you are not the creative/artsy/crafty type. Read on and enjoy.
