The second annual Bring a Friend Challenge (BAF) kicked off December 1 and runs through March 14, 2014. It’s a great opportunity for industry businesses to promote themselves while helping to grow snow sports participation.
The BAF Challenge encourages current skiers and snowboarders to bring a friend who’s new to snow sports to a resort and help them sign up for lessons from professional instructors. Any BAF participant who brings a friend is eligible for a weekly prize drawing as well as grand prizes at the end the season.
“The Bring a Friend Challenge is a way for current skiers and snowboarders to win great prizes and it motivates newcomers to learn from trained instructors,” said Mary Jo Tarallo, director of the Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month/Bring a Friend initiative. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Retailers and suppliers have specific and important roles to play in making this effort a success. You can help by promoting the BAF Challenge in your communications and on your website, and for retailers, in your store. Suppliers can also donate product to be used as weekly prizes or as part of the grand prize package for Ambassadors and Champions.
“The Bring a Friend Challenge offers so many opportunities for our industry to gain newcomers,” Tarallo said. “We are fortunate that our partners provided great rewards for current skiers and snowboarders to help beginners sign up for lessons from pros. All partners have to do is promote the program. LSSM/BAF organizers will take care of the rest.”
BAF Prizes currently include RAMP Sports, a Burton Snowboards, skis or apparel from Armada, apparel from White Sierra, camera/goggles from Zeal Optics, and a trip to the Topnotch Resort in Vermont or Whiteface Mountain/Lake Placid in New York.
People who introduce at least three newcomers to beginner lessons can sign up to be an Ambassador (adults age 18 and up) or Champion (youths ages 13–17). Ambassadors and Champions are eligible to win a season pass to a venue near them, and great prizes from The North Face, Head Wintersports, and Flow Sports. The Ambassador of the Year also will win a four-day trip to Utah, including airfare from a major airport.
