Great Barrington, MA (January 4, 2016) — Ski Butternut is one of 120 ski/snowboard resorts across the country that will host a Guinness Book of World Records event in hopes of setting a joint record for the Largest Ski or Snowboard lesson. Lessons take place at 10 a.m. on Friday January 8, 2016 and the event serves as the kick-off for the snow sports industry’s Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month.
According to Jay Barranger, Ski Butternut’s Snowsports Director, “Ski Butternut is joining with resorts across the country to introduce the great sports of skiing and snowboarding to as many people as possible! We invite anyone age 4 and over to be a part of breaking a Guinness world record by taking a $10 Learn-to-Ski or Learn-to-Snowboard Lesson at Ski Butternut, in the beautiful Berkshires.” No reservations are required but if you have questions you can call 413-528-2000 x150. The beginner lesson package includes rental equipment for the day, a first-timer 1.5hr lesson and a beginner’s area lift ticket.
Barranger suggests, “Plan to arrive at the Ski Butternut Rental building, conveniently located on the right side of the main parking lot, by 9AM at the latest. Dress warm and try to bring the following: (a warm base layer (upper and lower), warm winter jacket and pants, mittens or gloves and goggles or sunglasses). A helmet, if desired, can be rented for the day at the mountain. Wear a pair of medium weight wool socks – not cotton – during your time on the slopes. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will need to sign the rental form.”
At the mountain, participants will fill out an online rental form and sign a participation enrollment form. They’ll then be issued ski or snowboard boots at the rental counter, then Rossignol ski equipment or a Burton Snowboard. Skiers can pick up poles as they exit the rental building. All equipment will be sized correctly for the participant’s height and ability. After getting their equipment and moving outside the guests will be assigned an instructor for their lesson, which starts at 10a.m. After the lesson the instructor will give the new skier or snowboarder directions on where to go to practice more and what to do next. They’ll also receive a “Return to Learn” envelope that gives them a discount on future lift, lesson and rental packages, valid the rest of this winter.
During the rest of January’s Learn a Snowsports Month – Ski Butternut will be offering a Learn-to-Ski or Learn-to-Snowboard package for just $75 any day. The package includes a 1.5hr beginner lesson, a beginner area lift ticket and equipment rental.
Barranger says, “The World’s Largest Lesson and National Learn a Snowsport Month are nationwide initiatives developed to show people just how easy and fun it is to learn to ski or snowboard. This is your winter to learn a new sport – embrace it!
