Whistler Photographer to Celebrate Release of New Collection of Images
Whistler, BC (February 23, 2010) — Mountain and adventure photographer Blake Jorgenson will celebrate the release of his new book on Wednesday, Feb. 24 with a launch party at his eponymous photo gallery at the base of the Westin Hotel in Whistler Village. Blake Jorgenson Photography: Whistler British Columbia 1999-2009 is an all-inclusive collection of the Whistler local’s quintessential images: breathtaking mountain vistas and visceral action shots of the world’s best free skiers and mountain bikers, along with quiet backcountry moments and deeply personal tributes all shot in Jorgenson’s distinct and dramatic style. The book includes a foreword by longtime associate Shelley Arnusch. The launch party will take place 8 p.m. to midnight and Jorgenson will be on hand for interviews.
A native of Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Jorgenson arrived in Whistler in 1993 at the age of 17 and knew immediately that he never wanted to live anywhere else. He began taking pictures of the hardcore local skiers and mountain bikers he associated with and was soon publishing in magazines all over the world. Based in Whistler, he currently travels the globe on commercial and editorial assignments. In 2008 he opened the Blake Jorgenson Gallery at the base of the Westin Hotel in Whistler Village, a modern-contemporary space displaying his own work and hosting international touring exhibitions, receptions and special events.
