Fernie, BC (February 11, 2010) — Fernie Alpine Resort is getting ready to host the Smith Optics Fernie Freeski Competition presented by Fresh Sports, taking place from Wednesday February 17 – Sunday February 21. Athletes will be challenged by Fernie Alpine Resort’s terrain and legendary powder in this 7th annual competition. This is a popular event for both competitors and spectators each season at Fernie Alpine Resort and draws out some serious ski talent. The FIVE alpine bowls and 2800ft of vertical are what make Fernie Alpine Resort an ideal location for Freeski competition.

The competition is open to skiers, ages 19 and older and online registration for the event is now open. Interested competitors can go to: for more details and registration. Judging categories include: Control, Technique, Fluidity, Aggressiveness and Line of Choice. The event begins with registration and venue inspection on Wednesday (venues will be confirmed at competitor registration), Qualifying Rounds on Thursday, Semi-Final Round on Friday, and Final Round & Awards Ceremony on Saturday. The Sunday will be held as a weather day.

Athletes are competing for their share of a cash purse and product from our sponsors. Spectators are welcome to come out and watch the competition each day. Access for spectators will be designated closer to the competition. Spectators are required to have a valid lift ticket or 2009-10 season pass.
