Speakers to include Auden Schendler of Aspen Skiing Company; Jerry Tinianow, Chief Sustainability Officer for City of Denver; Team behind award-winning Chasing Ice’ documentary
Denver, CO (May 10, 2013 This Saturday, May 11, the Colorado Climate Festival will bring together live music, local beer and an eco-village of Colorado businesses uniting against Climate Change. The festival, which is free and open to the public, runs from 12-3 p.m. at Denver Civic Center Park’s Greek Amphitheater and will feature discussions of the impacts of climate change and the importance of finding climate solutions to address it.
Special guests, including Auden Schendler, Vice President for Sustainability at Aspen Skiing Company, and Jerry Tinianow, Chief Sustainability Officer for the city of Denver, will be on hand to discuss the climate issues facing Denver and the Front Range, and bring together new and old friends from across the snow sports, wildlife and fisheries, and wildfire fighting communities. The team behind the award-winning documentary Chasing Ice will also feature a special screening of additional footage from the Extreme Ice Survey and talk about the impact of the film.
In addition, heroic smokejumpers will be honored for their work on the frontlines of climate change during last year’s wildfires in Colorado. Additional speakers will be announced in coming days.
Bands performing at the festival will include the Fox Street Allstars and Zach Heckendorf; beer will be provided by local breweries Breckenridge Brewery and Boulder Beer.
The event is sponsored by a coalition of local public interest groups including Protect Our Winters, Snowriders International, Environment Colorado, Conservation Colorado, Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, The Climate Reality Project, the National Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation, Small Business Majority, Alliance for Climate Education and Organizing for Action.
