Washington, DC (December 15, 2015) — With winter descending on the western half of the country, U.S. Ski and Snowboard areas are gearing up for the 8th annual Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month during January. This is a time when locations large and small offer special deals for children and adults who want to learn. The program focuses on taking lessons from professional instructors rather than encouraging newcomers to teach themselves or try to learn from a friend, family member or spouse. Most are for Alpine skiing and snowboarding and typically a 1.5-hour introductory on-snow experience.
Ski Utah is coordinating a $45 package that primarily is targeted to Utah residents. Ski New Mexico runs an annual program with KOAT7 (ABC –TV affiliate) for school children at all of its member resorts.
Individual resorts throughout the U.S. have developed their own Learn to Ski and Snowboard or “Bring a Friend” programs and many are in the western part of the country. The learntoskiandsnowboard.org web site provides links to host locations and also to venues hosting the snow sports industry’s “World’s Largest Lesson” event on January 8, 2015. The Special Programs section of the web site provides links. Here is a sampling of current locations in the western part of the country and more will be added. Midwest and Eastern locations will be covered separately.
