LEKI athlete Lindsey Vonn returns to ski racing this month and challenges all-time record for World Cup wins

Buffalo, NY (November 19, 2013) — LEKI, the leading manufacturer of skiing, trekking and nordic walking poles, and corporate sponsor of U.S. Ski Team member Lindsey Vonn since 2006, is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Universal Sports Lindsey Vonn Victory Tracker at http://universalsports.com/lindsey-vonn-victory-tracker-career-retrospective/. The Victory Tracker features highlight clips and/or race day photos of Vonn’s 59 World Cup wins to date, and follows her quest to surpass Annemarie Moser-Pröll’s all-time record of 62 World Cup wins among women’s racers.

Using LEKI poles for most of her career, Vonn is the most successful Alpine ski racer in American history. Six weeks after she turned 20, Vonn won her first World Cup victory in Lake Louise, Albert a. She is one of the few world-class, four-event ski racers and the only American woman to have captured downhill gold at the Olympics. She holds five World Championship medals including two gold medals in 2009. In 2012, Vonn took the ski season by storm with a record 12 World Cup wins en route to her fourth Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall title in addition to her fifth straight downhill crown, fourth super G title and third consecutive super combined globe to bring her career total to 16. Despite a serious knee injury sustained at the World Championships in early February 2013, Vonn finished the season with her sixth straight World Cup downhill title – a record for both men and women. Following surgery and intense rehab, Vonn is back on snow this season and continues her quest to becoming the most successful woman ski racer ever.

Globally known for their innovative design and technology, German-based LEKI has been making ski poles for the past 65 years. A top choice for skiers at all levels, LEKI’s revolutionary Trigger S system introduced in 2007 was the first “safety binding” on a ski pole that offers unmatched levels of security and performance. In addition to Lindsey Vonn, LEKI also sponsors high profile ski racers like rising U.S. superstar Mikaela Shiffrin, Bode Miller, Ivica Kostelic, Felix Neureuther, Maria Höfl-Riesch and Benjamin Raich, to name a few.

“We’re excited to work with Universal Sports on Lindsey’s Victory Tracker, as it’s a unique way to look back on her outstanding career so far and help cheer her on as she attempts to break yet another record this season,” said Greg Wozer, VP of LEKI USA. “Lindsey epitomizes the definition of hard work and excellence and LEKI couldn’t be more proud to support her on her quest to become the most successful woman ski racer in history.”
