Buffalo, NY (November 20, 2015) — LEKI announced they have added freeskiers Marcus Caston, Amie Engerbretson and Kyle Smaine to their athlete roster for the 2015/16 season. This, in conjunction with the hiring of legendary freeskier Sven Brunso as Team Manager, emphasizes LEKI’s additional commitment to supporting the freeski community and its athletes. LEKI is also an official supplier to the U.S. Ski Team.
Marcus Caston initially cut his teeth in the ski race scene on the Snowbird Ski Team, specializing in Super G and Downhill. His racing background was a perfect segue to the all mountain domination needed to do well on the Rahlves Banzai Tour, a mix between skier cross and big mountain where athletes race head to head down some of Lake Tahoe’s most challenging terrain. In 2012, Caston went to Alaska with his friend and legendary ski racer Ted Ligety to film with Warren Miller for Flow State. He also appears in this year’s Warren Miller film, Chasing Shadows. You’ll find Caston in just about every skiing magazine on the newsstand including the cover of the Early Winter 2016 issue of MOUNTAIN magazine and the cover of the 2015/16 Powder Magazine Buyers Guide.
Born in Tahoe and raised on the slopes of Squaw, Amie Engerbretson spent her first day on snow at 10 months old and has been skiing for the camera (and for fun!) ever since. Following in the footsteps of her former pro skier father, Jeff Engerbretson, she developed a unique set of skills and deep knowledge of the mountains. She’s been featured in motion and print advertising campaigns and published in international media outlets. This year, Engerbretson was featured in Warren Miller’s Chasing Shadows.
Kyle Smaine is best known for his skills in the Halfpipe and most recently claimed the FIS World Championship in Halfpipe last January. Taking that momentum through the rest of the season he grabbed eight top 10 results in various high profile competitions such as The Dew Tour, Grand Prix, and World Cups stops. Additionally he has won multiple stops on the Rahlves Banzai Tour. Smaine is a versatile skier always looking to make his mark and expand upon anything that’s possible on skis and in the mountains.
Providing a jump start to LEKI’s freeski and big mountain business is long-time LEKI athlete and new Team Manager Sven Brunso, one of the most published skiers in the business with more than 2,000 published images, including 50 covers worldwide. In addition to maximizing LEKI’s relationships with current athletes, Brunso is also in charge of recruiting other top name and up and coming skiers for the company.
“As one of our longest term sponsored skiers, Sven has a deep understanding of the LEKI product as well as our brand history and philosophy. He is in the best position to manage and recruit our team of athletes as he speaks the same language as every other veteran and new school skier out on the mountain,” said Greg Wozer, VP of LEKI USA.
