Aspen, CO (November 10, 2009) — Aspen-based Sport Obermeyer (Obermeyer) is pleased to announce the appointment of industry veteran Dan Tiegs as vice president of merchandising. This new position was added to address the brand’s growth as it launches into the 2010 season.
In his new role at Obermeyer, Tiegs will be responsible for merchandising the Men’s, Boys and Essentials programs as well as managing the company’s production. Tiegs will report directly to the Obermeyer’s Founder and CEO, Klaus Obermeyer.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Dan to the Obermeyer family,” said Klaus Obermeyer. “Dan brings a wealth of knowledge to the table, both as a recreational outdoorsman and as a merchandiser and trend forecaster. We’re confident that he will help bring Obermeyer to the forefront of our category in the decade ahead.”
Tiegs’ career in the outdoor industry began in 1995 as a production planner and sales forecaster for Columbia Sportswear. In 1999 he left the company to work as a footwear sales forecaster for Nike, returning to Columbia in 2001 where he began merchandising. Upon his return to Columbia, Tiegs was responsible for leading a design and development team to grow Columbia’s ski-focused Titanium collection to $80 million worldwide in five years. Most recently, Tiegs comes from Solstice, an Oregon-based performance winter sports apparel company where he served as the the Director of Merchandising and Design. In his three years at Sostice, Tiegs was also involved in private-label work for brands such as Cabela’s, Gander Mountain and Academy.
“As a skier I know what a long and storied tradition the Obermeyer brand has in the ski community and I am very excited to be part of such a great brand,” Tiegs said. “Klaus is an industry pioneer, and I’m thrilled to be working alongside him. In addition to his extensive experience in the outerwear industry, Tiegs is also an avid skier, mountaineer, cyclist, soccer enthusiast and musician. Newly transplanted in Aspen via Portland, Tiegs is also a U.S. Forestry Department Certified Wild Fire Firefighter. He will live in Aspen Colorado with his family.
