Jackson Hole, WY (November 10, 2008) — An original ski brand that relaunched its label two years ago, Jackson Hole-based Powderhorn received some rather unfortunate information last month, when the company learned that on Oct. 5th a portion of their Fall 2008 shipment was destroyed in a cargo container fire aboard the APL Peru during transit from Hong Kong.
As a result of the fire damage, all of the Powderhorn garments included in the container have been reported as a total loss, an outcome that has subsequently affected the blossoming company’s ability to fulfill some of its preseason orders, while also zapping available product for additional in-season sales a catastrophic event that even during normal economic conditions could have a devastating impact on a 2-year old company.
Yet, it’s during tough times like these that smart companies get creative and move quickly towards answers and resolution. Being the nimble, mountain grown company that it is, Powderhorn swiftly moved into solution mode, working very closely with their European Powderhorn partners, Sojitz Global Trade Solutions, Beecher Carlson Insurance and numerous freight forwarders and consolidators to transfer all available 08 product from Powderhorn’s European inventory to their North American fulfillment facility in Salt Lake City. The shipment arrived today.
“Of course this caused major shipping hurdles for us, but miraculously, thanks to the cooperation of all of our partners we’re still able to get all preseason orders out within our originally targeted window,” said Powderhorn’s Dave Ellingson.
With the back up inventory ready to ship, Powderhorn anticipates being able to fill the majority of its preseason orders with the exception of the occasional substitution in color and size.
“While it’s an unavoidable circumstance beyond our control, as a smaller, growing brand our dealers are critical to our success and we are determined to go the distance to ensure their success with our product,” said Ellingson. “Our dealers believe in the Powderhorn mission and we’re going to keep doing everything we can to keep them believing.”
And along with proactive customer service and personal buyer calls, Powderhorn issued a dealer-wide letter this week explaining the details of the incident and expressing a sincere appreciation for continued patronage. Powderhorn also invited any dealer with questions or concerns to contact them at 866-455-1775.
Founded in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 1972, and originally staking its claim in the world of ski fashion with its western-inspired, down-filled, shoulder-yoked ski parkas, Powderhorn had a legendary following for its classic styled ski jackets. Loyal to its roots, for 2008 Powderhorn continues to blend classic ski fashion with a comprehensive collection of base layers, mid-weight, and outerwear tops and bottoms. Combining true ski fashion with the latest fabrics, Powderhorn utilizes advanced synthetic membranes such as Schoeller c_change», Entrant Dermizax», waterproof leathers and corduroys, natural alpaca wool and micro merino, as well as Primaloft and down insulations to create a collection that is truly inspired by the allure and mystique of the mountains.
