3 Pro-Riders Throw Their Support Behind the 10th Edition of WSD on December 20, 2015!

WSD_10yr_imageWashington, DC (November 12, 2015) — After 9 wildly successful editions, World Snowboard Day is going all out to celebrate the upcoming tenth edition by calling upon no less than 3 world-renowned riders to represent the event. Following in the footsteps of Anne-Flore Marxer, Xavier de le Rue, and Régis Rolland, for 2015, Rob Kingwill, Gian Simmen, and Wang Lei will join the adventure!

For the 10th edition, the World Snowboard Day organizing team wanted to showcase the multicultural aspect of the snowboarding community by offering even greater visibility to the three continents who have contributed to the project’s success since the very beginning:

Freerider Rob Kingwill enthusiastically agreed to represent the Americas, where the number of events has increased each and every year.

Olympic Halfpipe gold medalist Gian Simmen represents Europe, and continues to be actively involved in the growth of snowboarding.

A snowboarding legend and the sport’s pioneer in China, WANG Lei represents Asia, and works hard day-in and day-out to grow our favorite board sport on the world’s largest continent!

Rob Kingwill is a pro snowboarder from Jackson Hole, WY, who has enjoyed an extremely successful career as a halfpipe competitor, winning the US Open and over 20 World Cup podiums and US Grand Prixs. He has medals from the X-Games to the Gravity Games, by way of the World Championships, and was on the US Snowboard team for 8 years.

The official 2015 WSD ambassador for the Americas also founded the nonprofit “The Futurepositiv Project”, which focuses on activating youth in the outdoors through snowboarding.

Swiss rider Gian Simmen is the official 2015 WSD ambassador for Europe, and yet another snowboarding legend. During the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, where snowboard halfpipe made its debut as an Olympic event, Gian became the first snowboard halfpipe Olympic gold medalist. Over 15 years after his victory, he continues to shred hard and inspire riders throughout the snowboard community.

Wang Lei is China’s best known snowboarder, and with a winter sports career that spans over two decades. Using his charismatic style, Wang Lei continues to push his limits as well as encourage the people around him to push their own, no matter what the challenge. He dedicates himself to growing snowboarding in China using his experience, talent, network, and passion for extreme sports. He has organized WSD events in China for the last  7 years, and he is ecstatic to be the 2015 WSD ambassador for Asia.

Since 2006, World Snowboard Day has offered a unique opportunity for the international snowboard community to promote the sport and its unique subculture by providing the general public with the chance to try a variety of activities for free. This event receives support from international organizations such as Outdoor Sports Valley (OSV) and the World Snowboard Federation in Europe, SnowSports Industries America (SIA) in North America, and Core Power Asia in Asia.

In 2014, World Snowboard Day hosted 114 events in 30 countries around the world. Since the launch of this international event nine years ago, more than 500,000 people have been able to discover the joy of sliding on snow and of riding to the rhythm of WSD. After 9 highly successful editions, this event has become a must for everyone who lists snowboarding as their passion.
