Tritons go back-to-back at the Orange County
Oakley High School Surf Team Challenge.
San Clemente, CA (May 9, 2014) — The 2014 Oakley High School Surf Team Challenge went down on Saturday, May 3rd at Lower Trestles in collaboration with the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge. The second of two regional events invited 10 teams of four surfers from Orange County area high schools to compete.
The teams for this year’s event were Aliso Niguel High School, Corona del Mar High School, Dana Hills High School, Edison High School, Huntington Beach High School, Laguna Beach High School, Newport Harbor High School, San Clemente High School, San Juan Hills High School, and Tesoro High School. Jordy Smith also joined this year’s event to mix things up in the Expression Session before the Final.

With a fun, rippable swell to get things going, the first heat saw defending champions, San Clemente High School, pushing for their top spot early on with a score of 39.89. Dana Hills High School stayed close behind them with a score of 34.54 and carried that same competitive charge into the Final. Despite their best efforts, they never caught the local boys from San Clemente, who dominated the Final with a 37.30 and secured their second consecutive title.
Orange County’s Best High School Surf Team is San Clemente High School: Colton Overin, Kei Kobayashi, Colin Deveze, and Conner Dand.
In addition to the title, trophy, and bragging rights, the team took home Oakley iPad minis, Futures Fins, and Watermans Sunscreen for their efforts. Dana Hills High School took second, Huntington Beach High School took third, and Newport Harbor High School took fourth.
