Industry Press Release

McLean, VA (January 27, 2009) — SnowSports Industries America (SIA) is partnering with the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR) to provide a 2.5 day conference on how snow sports can be incorporated into school and recreation programs. The Conference will take place at Gunstock Resort and the Margate Resort in New Hampshire December 3-5, 2009. Professionals in physical education, physical activity, recreation and snow sports instruction will be invited to attend.

Known as “Get Out!” the conference will combine workshops, seminars and on-snow learning demonstrations. Sessions will range from teaching the basics of snow sports via trained instructors to presentation on How to Fit or Purchase Equipment, How to Plan a Trip, How to Start a Snow Sports Club, Dressing for Maximum Movement and Warmth, Risk Management and Insurance Related to Groups, Adaptive Techniques and more. The task force developing the program consists of snow sports industry personnel and professionals from the education community.

“This is a rare opportunity for our industry to work face-to-face with adults who directly influence youth activity habits,” said David Ingemie, president of SIA. “Conferences like this generally dwell on warm weather outdoor activities. To our knowledge, this is the first time a national conference like this has focused on snow and outdoor winter sports.”

The winter “Get Out” is part of SIA’s Winter Feels Good initiative to increase participation and product sales by promoting the health and lifestyle benefits of snow sports. Other industries, such as golf, tennis, bowling and archery have developed outreach programs to attract youth but none have organized an entire conference focusing on their activities.

An educational organization of 8,000 members dedicated to promoting creative, active, healthy lifestyles and supporting professionals who promote, develop, and deliver inclusive, lifelong, or community based fitness, physical activity, and recreational experiences. In other words, AAPAR promotes “fitness and fun for all for life!” Their motto: PAR-ticipate!
