Spanish Mountaineering Apparel Brand Ternua Opens North American Distribution

The Merger Of Ternua And Lorpen Creates A Formidable GroupIn The Outdoor Market

Toronto, Canada (December 4, 2014) — Ternua (, a Spanish brand that designs and produces technical mountaineering, climbing and skiing apparel and outerwear, will now distribute its products in specialty retail stores in North America. This is made possible as a result of a recent merger between Ternua and Lorpen, another Spanish company that makes technical socks and has North American distribution and an office based in Toronto, Canada.

This merger serves as a significant milestone in Ternua’s current strategic plan, which is based on strengthening its international expansion of technical outdoor apparel and outerwear. While the brand has strong saturation in the European and Asian markets, this merger will allow Ternua to introduce their products to the U.S. and Canadian outdoor marketplaces.

“The synergies derived from this merger will benefit everybody involved — both the Lorpen and Ternua brands; the retailers who are looking for a fresh, new brand to carry in their stores; and consumers who seek out European-designed technical outerwear,” said Jokin Umerez, Managing Director at Ternua. “We are excited to introduce the brand to specialty retailers at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. Based on our success throughout Europe and Asia, we think the North American dealers will be excited to see a new look with bright colors, sustainable fabrics, and the latest outdoor technologies.”

Ternua will be offering four categories of outdoor apparel in the U.S. and Canada:

Alpine: Ternua’s close relationships with elite mountaineers has allowed the company to fine-tune garments in this collection for maximum performance. This Alpine line includes outerwear tested by famous Spanish mountaineer, Alberto Inurrategi and is for use in extreme conditions.

Mountain Ski: Ternua’s new Mountain Ski line was conceived and designed in conjunction with the members of the EMF (Euskal Mendi Federazioa – Basque Mountain Federation) mountain ski team which is sponsored by Ternua.

This collection features highly technical and loose-fitting clothing equipped with the latest technologies for a sport that requires great freedom of movement and protection.

Trekking: The Ternua Trekking line consists of garments that are designed for both men and women and is ideal for use in cross country trekking, approaches, etc. Functionality and design complement each other perfectly in these technical garments that are the result of Ternua’s cooperation with the world’s leading suppliers of high performance fabrics such as Polartec, Gore-tex, Primaloft and Pertex.

Hiking: The Ternua Hiking line offers the ideal garments for enjoying mountain walks and make the perfect transition to urban style after a day on the trails for both men and women. Comfort, functionality, and attractive design are the principal hallmarks of this line, with a wide range of high performance, nature-friendly fabrics.

Ternua, which was founded in 1990, will now distribute its outdoor apparel in more than 50 countries throughout Europe, America and Asia. In addition to its national headquarters in Spain, it will share Lorpen’s Toronto office and production facilities in Puebla, Mexico.
