Washington, DC (October 7, 2013) — Organizers of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month and Warren Miller Entertainment (WME) are motivating current skiers and snowboarders to take the Bring a Friend Challenge this winter. The Challenge is part of the snow sports industry’s national Learn to Ski and Snowboard effort to help newcomers enlist in ski or snowboard lessons from professional instructors. The collaboration kicks off on October 11, 2013 at the world premier in Salt Lake City of WME’s new film Ticket to Ride.
WME will feature information about the Bring a Friend Challenge prior to the film’s showing at each stop on its official tour. Industry research shows that most people are introduced to skiing or snowboarding through friends or family members who already participate. Bring a Friend compliments Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month (LSSM).
The Challenge rewards current participants who introduce newcomers. They can win product prizes and trips for helping newcomers sign up for lessons with professional instructors and venues throughout the U.S. Contest rules are posted at bringafriend.org.
The audience for the Warren Miller films is current participants. This year’s action-packed “Ticket to Ride” highlights footage shot in Alaska, Montana, Colorado, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Greenland and the islands of Alesund. Featured in the film are Olympians Seth Wescott, Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso. Par and pipe veteran Gretchen shows that “girls can look like girls and still rip” in a segment filmed in Aspen. Aspen’s Buttermilk and Snowmass mountains are new partners in LSSM/Bring a Friend program.
Warren Miller Entertainment also partners with LSSM/BAF on the “Why I Love to Ski or Ride” Video Contest along with partners SKI and Skiing magazines, Transworld Snowboarding magazine, The North Face and skis.com. Last year a Pennsylvania snowboarder named Keith Korchok won the Grand Prize of a $500 gift certificate from skis.com and the Warren Miller Award of Excellence. Details for the 2013/14 contest will be announced soon at skiandsnowboardmonth.org.
