Denver, CO (January 11, 2010) — To welcome the SnowSports Industries America (SIA) Snow Show, which will bring up to 17,000 people to Denver for the world’s largest snow sports retail show from January 28-31, 2010, the Mile High City is staging a new event billed as “The World’s Largest Aprs Ski + Ride Party.” The event is presented by The Denver Post.
Held concurrently with the SIA Snow Show, the Aprs Ski + Ride Party is open to both Snow Show attendees and Denver locals, and includes events at more than sixty Denver bars, nightclubs, restaurants, theaters and sporting venues, as well as diverse activities ranging from a live feed of the ESPN’s Winter X-Games Fourteen hosted by Aspen/Snowmass being shown live on big screen TVs in Skyline Park to “Wear Your Ski Wear to Work Friday.” From January 28-30, 2010, Denver residents and visitors can celebrate the winter season and the city’s position as a snow sports Mecca. A full listing of events can be found on the Web site at www.DenverApres.com.
“Denver has more snow sports enthusiasts per capita than any other city in America,” states Richard Scharf, president & CEO of VISIT DENVER, one of the organizers of the party. “Now that Denver is hosting the world’s largest snow sports retail show, the city has the opportunity to roll out the white carpet’ and welcome this convention and at the same time celebrate our position as the snow sports capital of the country,” he said.
Aprs Kickoff Thursday, January 28, 2010
To enhance the event, more than a dozen of Colorado’s ski resorts have each “adopted” a downtown bar or club, where they will be “in residence” for the three nights of the party and have unique programming, such as drawings for lift tickets and merchandise, while offering drink specials. Pairings include:
Telluride at the Appaloosa Grill
Winter Park at the Wynkoop Brewing Company
Aspen Ski Company at Earl’s
Steamboat at the Hard Rock
Loveland at Katie Mullin’s
Arapahoe Basin at the Tilted Kilt, among several others.
“Each of the participating bars will take on the character of the ski area they represent and have lots of great give-a-ways and drawings. Locals will be able to come downtown, go to Aspen’ at Earl’s, cross the Mall and stop in at Steamboat’ at Hard Rock, hop the shuttle to A-Basin’ in the Tilted Kilt and stroll down to Vail, Breckenridge and Keystone’ at Lodo’s,” Scharf said.
In addition to the bars and clubs offering specials from Jan. 28-30, many of Denver’s top downtown restaurants are participating as well, offering special menus with many themed to match the winter season.
Snow Wear Friday Friday, January 29, 2010
To create a more festive, ski-like atmosphere downtown, everyone is being encouraged to wear their best ski and snow sport fashions to work on Friday, January 29. “From the morning newscasters to Mayor Hickenlooper, we are asking everyone to wear ski and snow fashions to work on January 29,” Scharf said. “People who wear ski fashions will be eligible for special deals prizes as seen by our street teams,” he said.
