Manufacturing Day Opportunity for SIA Members

Manufacturing Day (MFG DAY), this year on October 3, is a national effort to spotlight manufacturing and manufacturing job opportunities in the United States with a coordinated effort to bring media, students and others onto factory floors to learn more about modern manufacturing. SIA members can take advantage of this opportunity by hosting tours of their facilities. Hundreds companies will host events across the country. In 2013, Burton Snowboards, Icelantic, Never Summer, RAMP Sports and Thorlo Inc. all hosted MFG DAY events for the public.

2013 MFG DAY AT ICELANTIC“Snow sports manufacturers have a major influence on their local communities and Manufacturing Day is a great way for the public to learn more about these companies and the technology that’s behind producing the latest snow sports gear and apparel,” commented Kelly Davis, SIA director of research.

MFG DAY amplifies the voice of individual manufacturers and coordinates a collective chorus of suppliers with common concerns and challenges. It gives manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t.

“We are proud to be manufacturing skis, snowboards, and longboards in the U.S.A. using the best green practices. Our mission is to bring awareness to U.S. manufacturing, and ask consumers, ‘Why buy imports, when Americans make the best,’” said Vanessa Pierce, RAMP Sports communications director. “MFG Day offers a chance to be transparent to the consumer and introduce them to how we manufacture, which ultimately brings awareness to U.S. manufacturing as a whole, and builds consumer confidence in our brand.”

By working together during and after MFG DAY, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry
