With TransWorld celebrating their 30 year anniversary this year, we caught up with Mike Lewis, Editor-In-Chief of TransWorld Business, to discuss his time at TW and how the industry has progressed over the years.
SIA: A lot of people don’t know about your unique employment history. What did you do before TransWorld?
ML: I started in the industry working in shops, going back to Wave Rave in Boulder and Polar Revolution in Vail, before deciding to get serious and get an MBA. I ran the marketing department for a large non-profit health care group before deciding that getting serious wasn’t all that fun and joined the TransWorld team full time.
SIA: How long have you been working at TransWorld?
ML: I’ve been here full time for four years, but I’ve been a regular contributor for around 11.
SIA: Give us some of TransWorld’s history highlights?
ML: Wow, there are so many highlights, but I think the biggest ones are not just documenting how fast the sports we cover are evolving, but helping them grow by pushing innovation and participation. Events like the TransWorld Snow Conference, Skate & Create, all of our awards shows, videos, and content help promote the sports and get more and more people on board every year. Seeing new people get fired up on riding is the biggest highlight for me.
