The SIA Nordic Department has had a very busy July beginning with the SIA Nordic Committee meeting, a gathering and sharing of ideas of the cross country ski suppliers. Following a very productive series of meetings, the Nordic attention was shifted to preparations for the SIA Summer Snowdown, a summer media event in NYC. New this year was the introduction of US Ski Team member Jessie Diggins as the Winter Trails spokesperson. Jessie was able to attend the event and spent time speaking with the media about how effective events like Winter Trails are. She should know, she was introduced to cross country though a program very similar to Winter Trails.
The New York trip concluded with the first ever Urban Winter Trails event. Reese Brown, SIA Nordic Director, was joined by Jessie Diggins and fellow US Ski Team athlete Andy Newell at the Park Slope YMCA in Brooklyn, New York where over 140 YMCA campers were introduced to cross country skiing. It was a great experience for both the YMCA campers and the US Ski Team athletes.
The remainder of the summer will focus on Winter Trails logistics, new strategy execution, refinements to the Nordic On-Snow Demo at Devil’s Thumb Ranch and a few Nordic special projects. For more information please contact Reese Brown at RBrown@snowsports.org.
