Make a Hero was founded by Kurt Miller, former owner of Warren Miller Entertainment and son of Warren Miller. After the better part of two decades owning and running Warren Miller Entertainment, producer/director Kurt Miller had a vision for Make A Hero:
“Our mission is to grow awareness and generate financial support for individuals with disabilities. We inspire people with disabilities to ‘get fully engaged in the game of life’, build their confidence and help them regain their mobility and freedom through participation in sports and recreation,” said Kurt Miller, founder of Make a Hero.
This month, Miller is excited to announce the release of an exclusive DVD box set this fall featuring Robert Redford’s Downhill Racer, Greg Stump’s Blizzard of Aahhh’s, Matchstick Production’s Attack of La Nina and Make A Hero’s The Movement to complete a ground breaking box set of films that have defined the sport of skiing. All proceeds will go towards helping individuals with disabilities to enjoy the freedom of skiing!
Miller’s talent for bringing high-level resources together has served both the foundation and his first in a series of documentary films, The Movement. The Movement, is the first of many adaptive films that document the triumphs of individuals with physical disabilities in an effort to grow awareness and financial support for adaptive sports groups. The Movement is an inspirational story about individuals with physical disabilities experiencing freedom through sports and recreation.
“I’ve always thought of the body as a circle. If you take a piece away, then you develop other capabilities. Eventually the circle becomes whole again. And that’s when you’ve joined the movement,” said Warren Miller.
Miller is inviting the snow sports industry to join celebrity supporters, Warren Miller, Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman, Richard Dreyfuss, Chris Pine, and adaptive athletes, Chris Waddell, Jim Martinson, Mike May, Matt Feeney, and Anthony Robles in spreading the word about Make A Hero’s mission and our new DVD box set by promoting it to your customers via email or social media.
“The idea of working on a film with Warren Miller, which is produced and directed by his son, Kurt, was very appealing to me. The Warren Miller movies had defined the skiing culture for over 60 years and Warren’s ski movies were what drove me to make Downhill Racer,” said Oscar award winner, Robert Redford. “The mountains can be tough to access, even for the able body. This project tells the stories of five people, from all walks of life, who found a way to experience a freedom they were told was impossible. They are an inspiration.”
Recently, Make A Hero has received tremendous support due to the production of our award-wining film, The Movement, which features narration by Robert Redford and ski film legend Warren Miller, music by U2, the Foo Fighters and an original score by Trevor Rabin. The Movement has been selected to over twenty film festivals this year, has accrued multiple film festival awards and has also been nominated for seven Maverick Movie Awards including, Best Picture, Performance, Chronicle, Editing, Score, Sound Editing and Soundtrack.
