The second Snowboard Committee meeting of the year was held in Santa Ana, CA to discuss the state of the market and develop a long-range program to increase snowboard participation and product sales.
In this meeting, members of the SIA Snowboard Committee, media outlets, resorts and specialty retailers united to address hypotheses with direct approaches to strengthen the snowboard industry. They discussed how to involve all stakeholders in the snowboard market to review and expand current snowboard research, focus on inspired programs and messaging, and reinvigorate the snowboard community.
One breakout session focused on how to build the community aspect of snowboarding. “The programs that SIA organizes to increase participation do work,” commented Brad Steward, founder of Bonfire, who led the discussion. “SIA has boots on the ground to make things happen and we as an industry need to direct them.”
Committee member Dan McNamara, VP of Sales at Mervin Manufacturing, said the collaboration between everyone in attendance was inspiring. “As snowboarding moves forward it’s important that all of the industry leaders come together and talk about issues affecting the sport we all love. This was a great meeting of the minds to discuss an action plan to take snowboarding down the right path by bringing together brands, reps, resorts and retail,” he said.
SIA President David Ingemie agreed, “The Snowboard Committee meetings this year have proven that the industry is committed to work together to address the issues affecting snowboard participation and sales.”
The Snowboard Committee is moving forward with its strategic plan by reviewing existing snowboard research and pursuing new data that will help the industry understand how to increase snowboard participants, participation and product sales.
