Ligety, Vonn Victorious After Injuries
U.S. skiers put on a good showing this past weekend, especially those coming back from injury. Ted Ligety took the giant slalom win on Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek, while Lindsey Vonn topped the podium at Lake Louise’s downhill race. Julia Mancuso took third. Ligety had a tough go of it early in the season, finishing 10th in Soelden, Austria, after hitting a rock on the course and breaking a bone in his wrist during training in late November. According to the Denver Post, the 30-year-old Park City native was sitting in fourth place after his first run but had the fastest second run and finished 0.18 seconds ahead of France’s Alexis Pinturault.
Monster Energy’s Taylor Gold and David Wise win the Opening US Grand Prix Snowboard and Ski Halfpipe Events at Copper Mountain
The North American snowboard and freeski contest season kicked off this past week with the US Grand Prix at Copper Mountain with Monster Energy’s Taylor Gold and David Wise winning in their respective snowboard and freeski categories. The Grand Prix marks the 2014-15s first North American event of the year, an event where a number of the elite athletes shake off the rust and get back to business.
The Dew Tour Mountain Championships Return to Breck, December 11-14, 2014
Celebrating its ten-year anniversary, the Dew Tour will return to Breckenridge, Colo. for the Dew Tour Mountain Championships December 11-14, rounding out the season with its signature winter event. For the seventh straight year, the Dew Tour will descend upon Breckenridge Ski Resort for four days of snowboard and freeski competitions, as well as live concerts and the interactive Dew Tour Experience, featuring athlete meet and greets, games, and giveaways.
